My Rating System: *** Great, ** Worth reading, * Skip it
*** Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, MPH
Extensive guide on how to get pregnant. Extensively covers timing to optimize fertility and teaches you, step-by-step, how to read your body’s own signals.
My thoughts: This is a best seller for good reason. Great place to start reading.
*** Inconceivable by Julia Indichova
Julia tells her story of how lifestyle changes and mind-body work can conquer infertility statistics.
My thoughts: Easy afternoon read that’s inspiring and encourages us to trust and listen to our bodies.
** Fertility Foods by Jeremy Groll, MD, and Lorie Groll
Dr. Groll shares his diet and exercise plan which he has tested and seen work with his patients and in clinical research.
My thoughts: Well written and based on solid experience. One of the best books on diet and fertility which includes a seven day meal plan. Does not cover all aspects of a fertility diet but is a very good place to start.
* The Fertility Diet by Jorge E. Chavarro, MD, ScD and Walter C. Willett. MD. DrPH
A book on diet and exercise to optimize fertility based on The Nurses’ Health Study.
My thoughts: Not worth the read! The criticism of this book is plentiful including an article in The New York Times. Why? Because they base their recommendations on results that are not ripe for recommending - for numerous reasons. They state this in their scientifically published results by stating, “Because this is, to our knowledge, the first report of this relationship in humans, these results should be confirmed.“ (”Protein Intake and Ovulatory Infertility.” American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2008: 198-210.)
